Clutch
I really had a lot of fun creating this piece! I was so excited when I saw the reference material because I immediately envisioned how I wanted to execute this painting. My vision was to create something playful, expressive and just plain cool to capture this historic series clinching shot by Kwahi. I built up the canvas by using numerous layers of paint, creating depth and texture while making sure the teams colors were prominently featured throughout. Unique design elements using spray paint were sprinkled throughout the piece including the court using artistic license to give the painting a playful element keeping it interesting for the viewer while still staying somewhat true to the actual color of the court. I used a technique of outlining everything in the painting to push the boundaries of what is expected. Every detail of the photograph is depicted, however, it is done in an unexpected way. Only Kwahi and the rim of the basket are realistically painted as focal points standing out from the crowd of white lines. It gives the painting a dramatic feel and interprets the moment in a special way
