This collaborative painting between two artists (Katy Martin & Meghan Peters) works to symbolize Indigenous and Eurocentric cultures merging together to celebrate sport. In a world working so hard to divide us, Katy and Meaghan are here to shine a light on the parts of our cultures that unify us, bringing us together to honour the spirit of Canada’s Game. Katy is a realism painter who works in oils and she recreated a vintage photo of (left to right) George Armstrong, Todd Sloane and Dick Duff, known as the 'Bread and Butter Line'. George Armstrong was the first Indigenous Leafs player. Meaghan works in acrylics and is known for her brightly coloured and often layered paintings, adding both colour and meaning to this work. The light blue linework she added is of Canadian waterways and symbolizes this great land that so many of us get to call home. The double row of yellow dots outlining the Toronto Maple Leafs logo are symbolic of individual beads used in Metis beadwork from Meaghan's heritage.
